Atropine sulphate
Indications/Uses
Pre-medication before an anaesth. Treatment of patients w/ slow heart beat or a heart that has stopped. Antidote to neostigmine & other poisoning.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Reflux oesophagitis; closed-angle glaucoma; myasthenia gravis; paralytic ileus; severe ulcerative colitis or blockage in the intestines; difficulty in passing urine.
Special Precautions
HTN; lung disease; hyperthyroidism; disturbances in nervous system; stomach ulcer; hiatus hernia; diarrhoea, gastroenteritis or other GI infection; fever. Renal & hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Reduced body fluids (eg, saliva, sweat & phlegm), mydriasis, arrhythmia, difficulty in passing urine, constipation, hallucinations, increased IOP, ageusia, headache, nervousness, drowsiness, weakness, erythema, insomnia, bloating.
Drug Interactions
TCAs, antiparkinson agents, antihistamines, antispasmodics, phenothiazines, disopyramide or quinidine.
